The 6 mm
An offset runs on thermal mass: the steel soaks up the heat of the fire and gives it back, steady, for hours. The thinner the plate, the more the temperature swings. The Backyarder's: 6 mm black steel.
Buying twice is the expensive way. We build once, and build it right.
For reference: the great Texas workshops build in quarter-inch steel (~6.35 mm). Mass-market smokers run between 1 and 3 mm.

The walkaround
Clean fire with standard logs. The PUCO signature, stamped into the door itself.
The draft is an offset's steering wheel. This one fine-tunes, and comes off for transport.
Recipes speak Fahrenheit. Your head thinks Celsius. Here you read both.
Moisture in, grease out. Juicy bark and a cleanup that takes minutes.
The parts you open a thousand times, made to take every single one.
Roll it wherever you want, set the brakes, and the wood waits below.
The workshop
6 mm black steel, piece by piece, PUCO stamp included.
Continuous and exposed. We don't hide it: it's the proof.
Hinge and handle, calibrated thermometer, lockable wheels.
Every unit lights its first fire before it leaves the workshop.
By the time it reaches your home, your Backyarder already knows fire
Who we are
Luciano is a professional blacksmith. A creative genius. The kind who looks at a piece of steel and already sees what it could become.
Marcos is the designated cook at every gathering of friends and family. A devotee of Argentine asado who, during his years living in the United States, discovered Texan BBQ culture and fell for offset smokers. From then on, one idea kept turning in his head: some day he would build the smoker he had always dreamed of.
All he needed was the right person.
Then Luciano came along.
What began as a conversation turned into hours of sketches, calculations, videos, books, trials and plenty of mate. We shared the same obsession: to understand why the best smokers in the world worked the way they did, and to build one with no shortcuts, no compromises and no thought for how long it would take.
That's how The Beast was born.
Built on an old 250-litre compressor tank, it was far more than a first project. It was a statement of intent. A one-off piece, made entirely by hand, where every weld, every cut and every detail served a single purpose: to cook as well as it is possible to cook.
We built it for ourselves.
We never planned to sell smokers.
But every time we lit the fire, the same thing happened. Friends, cooks and complete strangers kept asking us the same question:
“Where can you buy one like this?”
That was when we understood that maybe there were other people out there looking for exactly what we had been looking for.
We wanted to keep doing it the way we did on day one: one smoker at a time.
Every piece made by hand.
Every one with its own personality.
Every one built to the same standard we would demand of the smoker for our own backyard.
Because that is exactly what we do.
Backyarder was not born from a business plan.
It was born from two people who love working steel, cooking for hours around a fire and sharing that moment with family and friends.
We still have our day jobs. This is not meant to become mass production. We do it in our free time, because we love making things that last a lifetime and because we believe there is still a place for objects made with patience, honesty and pride.
We don't make a commercial product.
We make the smoker we would choose for ourselves.
And we want to share that adventure with the people who feel fire the way we do.

FAQ
The Backyarder has a single, fixed price. What changes is the shipping, which depends on where you are, so we prefer to give you the full figure by direct contact rather than a "from" price that keeps growing. If you want something special, a custom detail or a modification, that is quoted separately. Write to us and you will have the total price, smoker and shipping, within 24 to 48 working hours.
The Backyarder is built by hand by Puco in their workshop in Albuixech, Valencia. Sales are handled by Guerrero Coves, its exclusive distributor, a Valencian distribution company with more than 40 years of experience that manages your quote, order and delivery.
The standard model takes 7 to 10 days to build in the Albuixech workshop. For custom smokers we study the project first before committing to timings. You get an estimated date when you confirm, and we let you know when your smoker passes its fire test and leaves the workshop.
Yes. If you are after another size or a different setup, tell us your idea: we study the project before giving lead times and come back to you with a concrete proposal.
Yes. We ship across mainland Spain and all over Europe. Once your address is confirmed, we calculate the exact shipping cost. The smoker travels well protected, with the chimney removed. Fitting it back on takes two minutes.
Before you cook anything, the smoker needs seasoning: a fire of several hours at medium heat, with the inside oiled, that seals the steel and burns off any residue from fabrication. Your Backyarder comes with step-by-step seasoning instructions, and we are a phone call away if you want company the first time you do it.
Dry hardwoods: holm oak and oak as a stable heat base, fruit woods (orange, olive, almond) to shape the aroma. Avoid resinous woods like pine and any treated or painted timber. And a secret you will not find in the manuals: the best wood is whatever you can get where you live, because it gives every cook the signature flavour of that land. The 45 × 50 cm firebox takes standard split logs.
Little, and simple: clear the ashes after each cook, empty the grease drain, and wipe a thin coat of oil on the inside from time to time. The outside appreciates a rub of oil wherever wear starts to dull the finish. At 6 mm thick, surface rust just sands off and re-oils: it never threatens the structure.
Indoors, never: it is a wood-burning appliance and its place is outside, in a garden, an open terrace or a well-ventilated patio kept clear of anything flammable. If you are not sure your space is right (size, flooring, smoke and neighbours), tell us before ordering: the smoker measures 170 × 115 × 50 cm and we will help you check.
Yes. It rides on heavy-duty lockable wheels: roll it over any firm surface and park it exactly where you want it. For house moves or long transport, the 130 cm chimney comes off without special tools.
Five years of warranty in writing. And a conviction no paper can hold: used well, this smoker will last for decades. The workshop that builds it is the same one that repairs it. Any part, any adjustment, one phone call away.
